Good morning middle Tennessee this is Josh with Performance Lawns we are out on the lawn putting down our first application of the 2019 season this will be the crabgrass pre-emergent fertilizer combo. I recommend getting this down before the ground temp gets to fifty five degrees to help prevent crabgrass and some other broadleaf weeds you're going to do this twice this spring this first go-around we're going to do a little bit higher nitrogen then then we would during the summer months because we want to get this lawn off to a great start and plus if you aerated and seeded last fall you probably have some little grass plants that will take in that nitrogen and that'll help mature those out so what we're using is a 22-0-8 or 22-0-6 this is a 22-0-6 is a twenty two as a fertilizer content we're putting it down at three and a half pounds per thousand you can see here that we're roughly going to get four months out of today's application we'll follow up that again as I said in a few weeks with another application we're going to do a little bit less nitrogen on that go around just because as we're going into summer we don't wanna be pushing the grass plant a whole lot so get out and do that first application also take care of your broadleaf weeds such as clover or bitter cress andy ou'll see a little bit Dandy Lion on popping up depending on your soul temps and henbit and purple dead nettle and mouse are chickweed common in mouse ear chickweeds so be sure to apply that broadleaf weed control and yeah and that should be it on this go-around make sure your passes are even and that should give you a nice consistent color with your fertilizer application again this Josh with performancelawns reminding you to get out and enjoy God's creation.

Hello this is Josh with Performance Lawns again I am out looking at a doing some spot checks on some yards that we treated at the beginning of February this first application of the year and it's kind of looking overall to see how things reacting how the weed control is doing and just doing spot checks. Want to keep our customers happy and one way to do that is by keeping the weeds controlled so this is a yard that we actually killed completely out this last fall and then did some aeration and seeding to it. This lawn was completely, just had some Bermuda and some other things in it some just some grassy weeds so we took it we took it all the way back to the dirt and an area conceded it and you can see some onion right there that is wilting over there's some more this will be about as dead as this onion will get until the customer mows it off it'll probably stay like that but I'm in LebanonTennessee again we did a crabgrass pre-emergent and a weed control and it looks like this lawn is fielding good and should make the customer happy don't be afraid to it's raining right now so we stopped a little short if it was a little bit warmer outside we'd be out treating but it's a little cold outside so decided to call the day short so actually pretty good that's a good day for me to get out and look some lawns we've treated past couple weeks and seeing how there were things going so get out there and get that pre-emergent put-down applied and get the weed control out it's a good time of year get that done this is Josh again from Performance Lawns just reminding you to get out enjoy God's creation.

The last thing any homeowner wants is for their lawn to become the eyesore o n the block. Making the decision to ignore the landscaping needs of your property can cause lots of problems. Brown grass, overgrown hedges and weed problems are all issues you will face without proper landscaping maintenance. The average American homeowner is well aware of the importance of a well-manicured lawn, which is why they spend over $105 billion a year on professional landscaping services. Educating yourself about how to properly care for your lawn is important. Some people let common misconceptions get in the way of sound landscaping practices. Here are some common lawn care myths and the real truth behind each one. Spring is the Best Time For Lawn Fertilization One of the main things your lawn needs to stay healthy is new root and leaf growth. As time goes by, the soil your grass grows in will need to be revitalized with nutrients. The best way to provide these nutrients is by fertilizing your lawn. Most lawn fertilizer contains vital nutrients like potassium, phosphorus and nitrogen. Choosing the right time to fertilize your lawn is important. The biggest misconception about lawn fertilization is that the best time to perform this procedure is in spring. In reality, fertilizing your lawn in spring can limit root growth and will lead to your grass growing excessively. Summer is really the best time to fertilize your lawn because the grass is already actively growing. If you need advice on the best time to fertilize your lawn, the team at Performance Lawns is here to help. Water Your Grass In The Evening is a Good Idea Proper hydration will keep the grass around your home green and lush. Certain parts of Tennessee will go weeks at a time without significant rainfall. Instead of letting your lawn get brittle and unhealthy due to a lack of rain, you need to water your grass with a sprinkler. Some people think that watering grass in the afternoon is a good idea. Truthfully, watering your grass in the evening can lead to the formation of fungus. Ideally, you want to water your grass in the morning so the water has time to evaporate. Anytime between 4 am to 10 am is acceptable for watering your lawn. Cutting Grass Short is Acceptable When it rains in the summer, the grass around your home will grow pretty fast. Some homeowners think that cutting their high grass shorter is the best way to limit the work they have to do to keep up their lawn. In reality, cutting your lawn too short will expose it to the scorching temperatures of summer. This exposure to heat will lead to the development of weeds and diseases. This is why you need to avoid scalping your lawn during the summer months. Are you having trouble keeping your lawn healthy? If so, check out the lawn care services offered by the professionals at Performance Lawns.

Keeping the trees around your property inpristine shape is more challenging than you probably realize. Every year, over 1.9 billion new treesare planted around the world. Whether the trees around your property are youngor have been there for decades, providing them with the right amount of care iscrucial. When a tree is diseased or infected with pests, you will be presentedwith many red flags. Here are some of the warning signs you might notice whenyour trees need professional attention. Trees On Your Property Have White Spots As a homeowner, you need to take time to inspect the variouselements of your landscaping design. If your residence is surrounded by trees, then you need to assess how healthy they are on a regular basis. One of thebiggest lawncare misconceptions is that trees require no maintenance. In reality, thetrees around your property can develop disease over time if they are notproperly maintained. If you start to notice one or more of the trees on yourproperty are covered in white spots, you need to take notice. This is usuallyan indication that scale insects have moved into the tree in question. Theseparasites feed on the tree’s internal fluid. The white spots you notice on yourtrees are actually a grouping of these tiny white bugs. As soon as you noticethis problem, you need to reachout to professionals for help. Small Holes In Tree Leaves When inspecting the trees around your property, pay closeattention to the condition of the leaves. If the leaves on one or more of thetrees around your property looks like they have holes in them, you might havean insect problem. Leaves that look like they have been chewed on are usuallyinfected with weevils or beetles. If this problem is being caused by beetles, you will noticethe middle part of the leaf is completely chewed out. The longer you allow thisproblem to persist, the harder it will be to salvage the tree in question. Theteam at Performance Lawns provides tree and shrub pest control services. Ourteam will work hard to remove pests from your trees in a timely manner. Holes In Tree Bark Another problem that you might notice when insects havetaken over a tree is holes in the bark. If these insects are not removed, they will do irreparabledamage to the tree’s vascular system. This will result in large portions of thetree dying. One of the worst things that can happen to your lawn is atick infestation. Every year, over 640,000 tick-borne illnesses are reported in the United States. There are anumber of factors that can attract ticks to your lawn. Below is moreinformation about why ticks are attracted to your lawn and what you can do toget rid of these pests. Ticks Thrive in Certain Environments If you want to keep ticks out of your yard, then you need tospend some time educating yourself about these pests. You need to realize thatticks look for very specific environments when trying to find a place to live.Environmental factors like thick grass, the presence of weeds and damp soil canattract ticks. On average, ticks will reside on the outer portion of a lawn. The outer portions of the lawn is generally where thingslike leaf piles, ground litter and low tree branches are found. Routinelyinspecting your property for these elements will help you stay one step aheadof ticks. These professionals can also help you keep your grassgreen and healthy. Animal Feeders Might Not Be a Good Idea Most homeowners work extremely hard to incorporate natureinto their exterior design. This usually includes the addition of many animalfeeders. These feeders can bring animals like deer, rodents and raccoons intoyour yard. While these animals can be fun to look at, they can also be coveredin ticks. If you must have these feeders on your property, you need tobe mindful about where you put them. The worst mistake you can make is puttingthese feeders in areas that are heavily shaded or damp. As previouslymentioned, areas with these characteristics are a virtual breeding ground forticks. How To Know You Have Ticks In Your Yard Realizing the signs of a tick infestation early on can helpyou treat this problem more effectively. There are a few basic things you needto look for when trying to snuff out a pest infestation. Using a light-coloredtowel or sheet attached to a stick is a good way to detect a pest infestation. This process, known as tick dragging, can be effective. Once you draft the sheet or towel through your yard, youneed to inspect it thoroughly for ticks. If you find one or more ticks, youneed to contact professionals to start the process of ridding your lawn ofthese pests. People think of winter as the dormant time – not time to plan outdoor activities, but a time to huddle indoors and forget that the out-of-doors exists. That's not how you have to spend your winter. In fact, paying some mind to your lawn and exterior areas now can get you in a good position for the next growing season. Tidy Up Dead Stuff One of the big jobs in this season is going around and clearing out dead debris and plant matter to make room for next spring’s greenery. That might mean raking out some beds, or pulling some dead plants out of the garden or yard space. In particularly warm years, this might be a little different, because the plants themselves aren’t going to die as quickly. You have to make some judgments on when to get rid of the old to make way for the new. But in general, this is a big winter activity. Consider Your Pruning Schedule For large trees such as fruit trees, experts actually recommend doing a lot of the cutting back in the spring or late winter. As winter progresses, you can be thinking about timing this correctly so that you get that pruning wrapped up before new growth starts. Think About Your Layout Do you have specific annuals or perennials you want in your yard? And what do you want your beds to look like? Start thinking about that now and make your moves as spring comes on. Think About Bugs Did you have a bad experience with bugs last year?
